DOLOW \u2013<\/strong> The administration of Dolow District yesterday received a high-level delegation representing several United Nations agencies operating in Somalia, during a visit aimed at strengthening joint cooperation and discussing the district\u2019s key development and humanitarian priorities amid growing challenges related to basic services and the needs of local communities, particularly the most vulnerable groups affected by economic and humanitarian conditions.<\/p>\n

The meeting brought together officials from several prominent UN agencies, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and UN Women. Discussions focused on ways to enhance cooperation mechanisms between international partners and the local administration in a manner that serves community interests and promotes development and stability.<\/p>\n

The discussions also focused on several priority issues for residents of the district, including improving the quality of public services, expanding programs aimed at supporting vulnerable families and internally displaced persons (IDPs), and exploring opportunities to develop the agricultural sector, which remains a primary source of livelihood for a large segment of the local population.<\/p>\n

The meeting further highlighted the importance of strengthening women\u2019s role in local development efforts and creating a supportive environment for their participation in economic and social activities, recognizing women as essential partners in the development process and in building resilient communities capable of overcoming challenges and achieving progress and stability.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the meeting, Doolow District Commissioner Mohamed Hussein Abdi emphasized that the local administration views cooperation with United Nations agencies as an important component in supporting development efforts and improving the living conditions of residents. He noted that the district remains committed to providing a conducive working environment for international partners to facilitate the effective and sustainable implementation of projects and programs that serve the community.<\/p>\n

For their part, representatives of the UN agencies praised the level of coordination with the district administration and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing support for humanitarian and development programs that respond to the needs of local communities, enhance access to basic services, strengthen community capacities, and improve resilience in the face of current and future challenges.<\/p>\n

The meeting concluded with a renewed emphasis on the importance of maintaining dialogue and coordination between both sides and advancing more effective partnerships in the coming period, ensuring that resources and efforts are directed toward the most pressing priorities and that tangible results are achieved to improve citizens\u2019 lives and the quality of services provided to them.<\/p>\n

Dolow District is considered one of the most important areas in southwestern Somalia due to its strategic location and its economic and humanitarian significance.
