HARGEISA —<\/strong> The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Government of Somaliland held a meeting with a delegation from the World Food Programme (WFP) to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation in addressing climate change and expanding environmental programs aimed at protecting natural resources and supporting affected communities.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Abdullah Jama Osman, and his Deputy Minister, Zamzam Mohamed Salah, alongside several senior ministry officials. The WFP delegation included Khalid Al-Qudis, Head of the WFP Somaliland Office, and Abdul Karim Yusuf Dahir, Policy and Programs Officer.<\/p>\n

The discussions focused on advancing cooperation in climate adaptation projects, with particular emphasis on tree-planting initiatives and the rehabilitation of degraded coastal areas, which are among the most affected by rapid environmental changes.<\/p>\n

The two sides also explored mechanisms to support national efforts aimed at restoring land affected by desertification, reducing vegetation degradation, and strengthening environmental interventions that contribute to improving the livelihoods of local communities.<\/p>\n

Both parties stressed the importance of unifying efforts between government institutions and international partners to ensure the implementation of more sustainable and effective environmental programs capable of addressing increasing climate challenges.<\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Government of Somaliland, this cooperation is part of a strategic approach to strengthening international partnerships in climate action, supporting environmental protection, and enhancing community resilience against the impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n

Somaliland regions face increasing environmental challenges due to climate change, including land degradation, rising drought levels, and declining vegetation cover in both coastal and inland areas.
