\u200bMOGADISHU \u2014<\/strong> \u200bThe Somali Ministry of Justice has launched a professional training program for officers and personnel of the Somali Custodial Corps, in a move aimed at strengthening professional standards and enhancing institutional performance within the prison and correctional sector.<\/p>\n

According to the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), the program was inaugurated by the Minister of Justice, Hassan Moallim Mohamud, alongside the Commander of the Somali Custodial Corps, Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Hamud, in the presence of several security and administrative officials.<\/p>\n

As reported by SONNA, the initiative is considered the first specialized professional development course organized for the force, focusing on equipping participants with leadership and administrative skills, in addition to training in military laws and regulations, inmate management, and correctional administration.<\/p>\n

The Commander of the Somali Custodial Corps stated that the program represents an important step toward improving the professional readiness and administrative capabilities of personnel working in the correctional sector, noting that the institution intends to conduct similar training programs regularly.<\/p>\n

He explained that developing human resources within correctional institutions is essential for building more efficient and disciplined justice institutions, thereby strengthening the role of prisons in rehabilitation and reform in line with modern professional standards.<\/p>\n

For his part, the Minister of Justice encouraged participants to make full use of the training program, stressing the importance of continuous professional development in improving the performance of justice and security institutions and enhancing professionalism within the Somali Custodial Corps.<\/p>\n

SONNA also quoted the minister as saying that the Somali government is giving increasing attention to capacity-building and institutional development initiatives as part of broader efforts to reform the justice sector and strengthen the rule of law across Somalia.<\/p>\n

The launch of this program reflects ongoing efforts to modernize Somalia\u2019s justice and security institutions through investment in human resource development and professional training systems, contributing to the establishment of more effective institutions capable of performing their responsibilities in accordance with approved legal and humanitarian standards.<\/p>\n

This specialized training program falls within the comprehensive strategic vision adopted by Somalia to restructure and modernize its justice and security sectors. Sustainable investment in human resources within the correctional system serves as a key pillar for achieving the desired institutional transformation, ensuring the activation of a penal philosophy centered on reform and rehabilitation.
