\u200bMOGADISHU —<\/strong> Somalia, represented by Dr. Maryam Qasim Ahmed, Chairperson of the Independent National Human Rights Commission, received today in Mogadishu Mr. Antoine Grand, Head of the ICRC Delegation, to launch a new phase of institutional cooperation, as reported by the Commission’s official Facebook page.<\/p>\n

\u200bThe meeting witnessed the laying of foundations to establish a sustainable relationship aimed at enhancing joint work in humanitarian and human rights fields, ensuring the protection of civilians and their inherent dignity as a top priority, as stated by the Commission\u2019s official page.<\/p>\n

Both sides reviewed methods to activate periodic monitoring of detention centers and penal institutions, emphasizing the necessity of aligning these procedures with international human rights standards and ensuring the basic rights of detainees in accordance with current national laws.<\/p>\n
