\u200bMOGADISHU — <\/strong>The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia has announced its intention to launch the “Decent Work” program; a strategic step aimed at preserving the dignity of the workforce and enhancing human rights principles in work environments, in accordance with established international standards.<\/p>\n

The announcement of this national initiative took place during the official International Workers’ Day celebrations in the capital, Mogadishu, where the government outlined its plans to align national cadres with modern professional requirements and ensure fair wages as a fundamental right guaranteed by Somali law and the constitution.<\/p>\n

Mr. Zakaria Abdi, Director of Labour at the Ministry, emphasized that the program represents a cornerstone for protecting employees from exploitation and providing a safe work environment, asserting that the state prioritizes workers’ dignity and professional rights on its social and economic agenda for comprehensive national recovery.<\/p>\n

Officials at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs explained that the initiative will focus on addressing wage gaps and activating legal protection frameworks, in addition to developing occupational health and safety standards, contributing to a professional climate that respects human rights and drives productivity.<\/p>\n

For their part, labor union representatives praised this move, pointing out the significant challenges workers face due to low income and the absence of job benefits, affirming that the new program offers hope for achieving institutional justice for national cadres and sustainably improving their living standards.<\/p>\n

These government actions come at a time when statistics indicate high unemployment rates among youth, reaching 60%, doubling the importance of the “Decent Work” program in providing fair job opportunities that protect young energies from marginalization and ensure their effective integration into the nation-building process.<\/p>\n

The Federal Government seeks through this program to build an integrated institutional system based on transparency and justice, ensuring a balance between workers’ rights and development requirements, thereby enhancing the local labor market’s international reputation and attracting foreign investments.<\/p>\n
