ADDIS ABABA —<\/strong> In a strategic move embodying her firm commitment to protecting the youth and preserving their dignity, Somalia officially submitted today the instrument of ratification of the “African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child” to the African Union Commission headquarters in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n

The handover ceremony was led by H.E. Khadiija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, Minister of Family Affairs and Human Rights Development, in the presence of high-level African Union officials and Somali diplomacy, marking a new chapter in the country’s path toward strengthening legal protection frameworks.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Moussa Mohamed Omar, Deputy Head of the African Union Commission Chairperson’s Office, in the presence of Prof. Hajer Gueldich, Director of Legal Affairs at the African Union, and the Somali Ambassador to the African Union, Mr. Warfaa.<\/p>\n

During her address, the Minister affirmed that this action reflects a solid political will by the Federal Government to comply with continental and international standards, ensuring the provision of a safe and stable environment that guarantees Somali children their inherent right to growth and welfare.<\/p>\n

This step is part of a broader national vision aimed at aligning local legislation with continental charters, cementing Somalia’s status as an active state that contributes seriously to the African collective action system concerned with humanitarian and social issues.<\/p>\n

The Minister explained that submitting the Charter is not merely a protocol procedure but a national pledge to enforce protection and care clauses, and to establish effective oversight mechanisms to mitigate challenges facing childhood rights amidst current national transitions.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, African Union officials praised the Somali state’s efforts in strengthening the human rights file, considering Somalia’s full accession to the Charter as an additional gain for the African continent in its collective pursuit of a more stable and prosperous generation.<\/p>\n

\u200bThrough this commitment, the state seeks to build an integrated national institutional system that works to mainstream child rights into national development plans and provides necessary legal protection against all forms of exploitation, in line with supreme African principles.<\/p>\n

\u200bThe handover ceremony concluded with an emphasis on Somalia’s aspiration to enhance cooperation with the African Union in all matters related to the family, affirming its leading role in supporting social stability, which serves as a fundamental pillar for any sustainable development renaissance.<\/p>\n

This Charter represents the cornerstone of building an African society that respects the innocence of childhood.
