Mohamed Harun Mohamud, Deputy Chairperson of the National Independent Human Rights Commission (NIHRC), reviewed with H.E. Mirko Giulietti, Ambassador of Switzerland to Somalia, horizons for bilateral cooperation to bolster the national human rights landscape. They discussed engineering advanced mechanisms to ensure the protection of fundamental freedoms and elevate the status of national human rights institutions with professionalism and independence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u200bThe meeting involved a comprehensive assessment of existing operational challenges and available developmental opportunities. Somalia reaffirmed her determination to build a human rights institution possessing the structural efficiency and capability to execute its mandate with absolute transparency, ensuring human rights remain a cornerstone of all national transformation and comprehensive renaissance plans.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the session, the Deputy Chairperson confirmed that the national institution is undergoing an accelerated foundational phase focused on capacity building and human resource development. He emphasized that the Commission will operate with complete independence and strict neutrality, adhering fully to global human rights frameworks, primarily the &#8220;Paris Principles.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This strategic direction seeks to build an institution that commands public trust and possesses the structural capabilities necessary to perform its duties effectively. Current efforts focus on formulating an institutional vision capable of proactively and systematically monitoring and promoting human rights standards across Somali governorates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For his part, the Swiss Ambassador expressed his country&#8217;s profound interest in the Commission&#8217;s strategic vision. He reaffirmed Switzerland\u2019s firm commitment to supporting governance initiatives and the rule of law in Somalia, providing the necessary technical support to enhance the Commission&#8217;s capacity to fulfill its humanitarian and legal mission according to the highest international standards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Both sides agreed on the necessity of sustaining this partnership through advanced technical support and specialized capacity-building programs. They aimed to work together to consolidate a culture of human rights as an integral part of social stability and economic growth, contributing to a secure national environment that supports citizens&#8217; rights and secures swift justice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Discussions also focused on the importance of integration between national will and international expertise to develop a resilient human rights system.
