MOGADISHU —<\/strong> \u200bIn a strategic move to fortify the education sector against escalating environmental crises, Somalia laid a foundational stone today to integrate climate awareness into the minds of future generations, as H.E. Ahmed Omar Mohamed, State Minister for Environment and Climate Change, inaugurated the validation meeting for the “Education Implementation Roadmap” under the National Adaptation Plan, asserting that knowledge is the primary defense against nature’s challenges.<\/p>\n

The Minister emphasized in his opening remarks\u2014as reported by the Ministry’s official Facebook page\u2014that climate change is no longer just a transient environmental challenge but touches the core of the educational process, directly affecting school stability and the physical and academic safety of students, necessitating a comprehensive national response.<\/p>\n

The new implementation roadmap is based on establishing a unified national framework aimed at embedding environmental protection and climate awareness into national curricula, ensuring the development of a generation equipped with the skills to understand natural shifts and handle seasonal disasters with high human responsibility.<\/p>\n

The strategic items discussed included qualifying teaching staff and training them in environmental and climate sciences, alongside developing “Education in Emergencies” (EiE) programs to ensure the continued right of children to learn, even amidst the harsh conditions caused by droughts or floods.<\/p>\n
