\u200bMOGADISHU —<\/strong> In a strategic move to bolster national economic stability and achieve comprehensive food sovereignty, H.E. Salah Ahmed Jama, the First Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) of Somalia, presided over the inauguration of the “National Agriculture Coordination Platform” in Mogadishu. Established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, the platform aims to unify efforts and harmonize agricultural development programs across the nation.<\/p>\n

This vital platform brings together various sovereign ministries and government institutions alongside international partners, led by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP), to ensure the alignment of government initiatives with the strategic plans of international development agencies.<\/p>\n

The initiative is designed to increase agricultural productivity and enhance food security systems by implementing a unified national strategy, transitioning the agricultural sector from an emergency response model to a stage of sustainability and steady growth.<\/p>\n

\u200bIn his opening address, the First Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that this platform will serve as the fundamental pillar for supporting Somali farmers and effectively contributing to mitigating the impacts of natural crises and climate change currently facing Somalia.<\/p>\n

\u200bHis Excellency noted that the new program will help build resilient agricultural communities by employing technical innovation and improving water resource management, thereby ensuring the continuity of livelihoods and the protection of national gains.<\/p>\n

Through this institutional movement, Somalia seeks to align the efforts of all donors and investors with national priorities, preventing project overlap and ensuring the fair distribution of technical and material support across all agricultural regions.<\/p>\n

During the launch ceremony, officials stressed that the platform will act as a key driver for improving farmers’ livelihoods and securing local supply chains, thereby reducing the food gap and enhancing agriculture’s role in the national GDP.<\/p>\n

Participating experts reviewed the platform’s operational mechanisms, which rely on rigorous monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure the highest standards of transparency and efficiency in implementing irrigation, reforestation, and strategic crop development projects.<\/p>\n
