\u200bMOGADISHU —<\/strong> In response to current climate challenges and in an effort to enhance local communities’ resilience against humanitarian crises, the headquarters of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) in Mogadishu hosted the first meeting of the Joint Committee tasked with implementing the Food Security Crisis Preparedness Plan (FSCPP), marking a strategic step aimed at formulating a comprehensive and sustainable national response.<\/p>\n

The meeting was chaired by H.E. Kamal Gutale, Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister of Somalia, with broad participation from government leaders and international partners to ensure the highest levels of coordination and readiness to deal with drought conditions and food insecurity in the region.<\/p>\n

\u200bThe gathering was attended by H.E. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, Chairperson of SoDMA, and H.E. George Conway, Deputy Special Representative of the UN for Somalia, alongside high-level representatives from active international agencies including UNICEF, FAO, and the World Food Programme (WFP).<\/p>\n

Discussions focused on accelerating the first phase of the “Food Security Crisis Preparedness Plan,” which represents an integrated national framework specifically designed to address the worsening impacts of drought and rising malnutrition rates across various Somali regions through a scientific and deliberate approach.<\/p>\n

\u200bThe committee reviewed progress on commitments stemming from the World Bank conference, emphasizing the need to expedite the delivery of pledged aid and financial commitments to support urgent development and relief projects that directly impact citizens’ lives and alleviate their suffering.<\/p>\n

Participants stressed the critical importance of strengthening joint coordination mechanisms between the Federal Government and international partners to ensure that aid is delivered effectively and efficiently, with top priority given to communities most affected by the recent severe climate fluctuations.<\/p>\n

The meeting concluded by establishing a roadmap to enhance oversight and transparency in resource distribution, ensuring that humanitarian aid is transformed into long-term development projects that contribute to building citizens’ resilience against future challenges effectively.<\/p>\n

Through this institutional movement, Somalia seeks to align national transformation plans with international programs to reduce reliance on emergency responses and move toward sustainable solutions for recurring food crises, thereby serving the state’s social and economic stability.<\/p>\n

Officials confirmed that the national disaster management system is currently updating its central database to provide accurate indicators that serve timely decision-making and prevent the escalation of humanitarian crises before they reach critical stages on the ground.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the necessity of activating the role of non-governmental organizations and civil society in supporting this national plan was emphasized to ensure relief coverage reaches remote and most needy areas, enhancing the efficiency of comprehensive humanitarian interventions.<\/p>\n
