KIGALI —<\/strong> Within the framework of accelerated African action to confront environmental challenges, the high-level conference on Green Climate Finance and the exchange of institutional expertise concluded in Kigali, Rwanda. Somalia presented its ambitious national strategy to localize sustainable finance mechanisms and build a green economy resilient to climate fluctuations, serving the goals of comprehensive development.<\/p>\n

\u200bThe high-level conference on Green Climate Finance and the exchange of best practices in environmental finance mechanisms concluded in Kigali, Rwanda, with significant Somali participation focused on developing national systems for sustainable finance, as reported by the Somali National News Agency (SONNA).<\/p>\n

The conference discussions, hosted by the “Rwanda Green Fund,” centered on the implementation mechanisms of a national climate finance system in Somalia, adopting a comprehensive whole-of-country approach to ensure efficiency in managing resources and directing them toward priority environmental projects.<\/p>\n

\u200bAccording to coverage by SONNA, the sessions featured in-depth dialogues on implementation frameworks and the challenges facing African countries in accessing international climate finance, while reviewing Rwanda\u2019s pioneering experience as a successful regional model in attracting green investments.<\/p>\n

The Somali delegation, led by Mr. Liibaan Cabsiiye, Executive Director of the National Climate Change Fund (NCF), presented tangible progress in climate action plans, highlighting national targets within “Somalia\u2019s Vision 2060” and the National Transformation Plan, which places sustainability at the heart of its priorities.<\/p>\n

The delegation explained during the conference that Mogadishu is moving forward in strengthening its international commitments through National Adaptation Plans, emphasizing the importance of partnerships with international institutions to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, as mentioned in official reports by SONNA.<\/p>\n

Liibaan Cabsiiye expressed his appreciation for the technical support provided by international donors, led by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, to enable Somalia to efficiently access global climate finance mechanisms to serve local communities.<\/p>\n

The Somali delegation included high-level officials from the Offices of the President and Prime Minister, the Ministry of Planning, and the Somalia Development Bank, reflecting the seriousness in aligning fiscal and productive policies with contemporary environmental requirements for sustainable economic growth.<\/p>\n

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to expanding cooperation with major climate funds, aiming to accelerate the utilization of green finance in supporting advanced infrastructure projects and improving community resilience against extreme climatic phenomena.<\/p>\n

The outcomes of the Kigali conference draw a new roadmap for Somali environmental diplomacy.
