\u200bMOGADISHU —<\/strong> The Somali National Commission for Refugees and IDPs (NCRI), in collaboration with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), launched a three-day training workshop in Mogadishu to deepen the understanding of national and international refugee and asylum legislation.<\/p>\n

The workshop aims to empower refugee community leaders, host communities, and humanitarian organizations through specialized sessions led by experts from the NCRI and the UNHCR, ensuring the application of the highest standards in human rights protection.<\/p>\n

During the opening ceremony, H.E. Ahmed Hussein Elmi, Commissioner of the NCRI, and H.E. Mahamoud Abdi Kaarshe, IGAD Representative, emphasized that legal awareness is the cornerstone for ensuring refugee dignity and facilitating social integration for regional stability.<\/p>\n

The Commissioner expressed his gratitude to IGAD for its continuous support, affirming that Somali hospitality toward refugees is a deep-rooted moral and historical commitment that remains steadfast despite any temporary challenges, fulfilling Somalia\u2019s humanitarian mission.<\/p>\n

On his part, the IGAD Representative praised Somalia’s leadership in hosting refugees with high responsibility, commending the NCRI’s efforts in drafting advanced laws aligned with international standards, which enhances transparency in managing humanitarian affairs in the Horn of Africa.<\/p>\n

Both parties highlighted the strength of the strategic partnership between Somalia and regional organizations, aimed at building the capacity of national institutions to manage displacement and asylum issues through a sustainable vision that prioritizes individual protection.<\/p>\n

In his remarks to participants, the Commissioner urged the transformation of acquired knowledge into field practices that raise community awareness, ensuring the rule of law and safeguarding the rights of asylum seekers in a safe and stable environment.<\/p>\n

This workshop is part of a broader Somali institutional movement to modernize legal migration systems in line with global shifts, ensuring a humanitarian model for crisis management and the protection of the most vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n
