\u200bMOGADISHU —<\/strong> H.E. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, Chairman of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), received today at the agency\u2019s headquarters in Mogadishu Mr. Hameed Nuru, the newly appointed Country Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), on the occasion of officially assuming his duties in Somalia.<\/p>\n

\u200bAt the outset of the meeting, both sides reviewed ways to strengthen strategic cooperation between the agency and the programme, emphasizing WFP\u2019s leading role as a primary international partner in providing humanitarian support and securing food safety nets for those affected.<\/p>\n

The discussions focused on developing disaster preparedness and rapid response mechanisms, in addition to enhancing early warning systems and building community resilience to ensure an effective and sustainable national response to climate and humanitarian crises.<\/p>\n

The meeting analyzed the current humanitarian situation and reviewed the latest findings of the “Integrated Food Security Phase Classification” (IPC) to ensure the alignment of relief interventions with urgent field needs across various regions.<\/p>\n

WFP presented its Somalia Country Strategic Plan (2026\u20132028), aimed at supporting the development priorities of the Federal Government of Somalia and strengthening the infrastructure for managing food and logistical resources in the country.<\/p>\n

The SoDMA Chairman commended the vital efforts exerted by the programme in Somalia, stressing the importance of institutional integration to ensure aid delivery and transform environmental challenges into sustainable development opportunities through joint projects.<\/p>\n

For his part, the newly appointed Country Director expressed the programme’s commitment to deepening the partnership with SoDMA, emphasizing that the upcoming vision will focus on innovation in relief systems and supporting national staff in emergency forecasting and response.<\/p>\n

Both parties agreed to activate periodic coordination channels to ensure the flexibility of humanitarian operations, focusing on initiatives that balance emergency relief with building community assets that protect the population from future shocks.<\/p>\n
