\u200bMOGADISHU —<\/strong> According to the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, the Somali Prime Minister, reviewed the government’s achievements during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) recently held in Brazil.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister confirmed in his statements that severe climate changes have led to nearly seven million people losing their livestock due to the intense drought waves that have recently struck vast parts of the country.<\/p>\n

Barre explained that the damage to the livestock sector represents a significant blow to the national economy and rural life, as it is the backbone of livelihoods for a vast segment of Somali society, necessitating urgent international relief action.<\/p>\n

The occasion featured a detailed report on government initiatives to address climate change impacts, including ambitious environmental restoration projects, proactive flood mitigation plans, and opportunities for environmental investment.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister praised the active role of the Somali delegation in international forums, noting that Somalia has entered serious negotiations with the international community to secure climate financing and compensation for loss and damage.<\/p>\n

H.E. Barre pointed out that establishing an independent Ministry of Environment reflects the high priority the government places on addressing climate crises and developing sustainable solutions to counter recurring droughts.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister issued an urgent appeal to scholars, business leaders, relief organizations, and philanthropists to contribute actively to providing essential aid to those affected who are facing extremely difficult living conditions.<\/p>\n

Regarding executive efforts, the government announced the establishment of a national fund for drought-related donations to ensure that aid reaches those in need in the most affected areas in an organized and transparent manner.<\/p>\n

On the diplomatic front, the Prime Minister intensified meetings with ambassadors of friendly nations and international organization representatives to mobilize the financial and logistical support required for urgent humanitarian response plans.<\/p>\n
