MOGADISHU —\u00a0\u200b<\/strong>In pursuit of enhancing climate sovereignty and building a resilient national economy aligned with global ambitions, Mogadishu hosted today a high-level training program on the “Green Climate Fund (GCF) Framework.” The event was officially opened by Mr. Liban Absiye, Executive Director of the National Climate Change Fund, amidst a broad participation of academic elites and technical experts.<\/p>\n

The program, which commenced on February 9th and continues until the 12th, aims to endorse two strategic documents: the “Somalia Readiness Needs Assessment” (RNA) and the “Private Sector Engagement Strategy” (PSES). These documents serve as the fundamental pillars for securing international financial flows for sustainable environmental projects.<\/p>\n

Organized by the National Designated Authority (NDA), the workshop seeks to empower Somali institutions with scientific research and innovation tools to design projects that meet rigorous international standards, ensuring the direction of green investments toward the water, agriculture, and renewable energy sectors.<\/p>\n

The sessions featured a distinguished presence of representatives from government agencies, financial institutions, civil society, and the private sector. Participants are undergoing advanced training led by national and international experts to enhance the technical readiness required to manage international climate funds effectively.<\/p>\n

This initiative is part of the “AU\u2013AIP Multicountry Readiness Programme,” in collaboration with the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA). It aims to create a stimulating environment for the Somali private sector to engage in environmental investments that support climate resilience and sustainable economic growth.<\/p>\n

\u200bParticipants emphasized the critical importance of aligning national plans with global standards of compliance and transparency. They asserted that the integration of government policies and private sector initiatives is the optimal path to building a national system capable of withstanding recurring environmental challenges.<\/p>\n

The workshop reviewed the legal and technical frameworks ensuring accountability in managing climate financial resources. This contributes to bolstering international partners’ confidence in national institutions and accelerates the approval of initiatives aimed at environmental protection and green infrastructure development.<\/p>\n

The opening activities concluded by reaffirming that this training represents a qualitative leap in the nation\u2019s ability to compete in international climate finance markets, transforming environmental challenges into tangible developmental opportunities that serve the Somali community and enhance long-term socio-economic stability.<\/p>\n

Empowering national institutions with climate finance tools is a cornerstone of the green recovery strategy. These efforts transcend addressing temporary crises, aiming to build an integrated system that links scientific research with international finance.
