MOGADISHU — <\/strong>In a qualitative move reflecting a national commitment to enhancing the role of women in building Somalia’s future, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has launched the “Gender in Humanitarian Action (GiHA) Working Group.” This launch came during a high-level coordination meeting hosted by the agency, with broad participation from local and international partners, aiming to integrate women leaders into the core of the country’s relief and development efforts.<\/p>\n

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Mohamud Moalim Abdulle, Chairman of SoDMA, who affirmed that this initiative is not merely a gathering but an “essential step towards a more equitable and effective humanitarian system.” He stressed that empowering women is an investment in building a national capacity for resilience and sustainable development, considering women’s organizations the true force for change.<\/p>\n

For her part, Dr. Rukaya Mohamed, UN Women’s Country Director, praised this partnership, confirming that “women are not just beneficiaries; they are indispensable partners in resilience and recovery.” She explained that the GiHA Group will work to ensure all aspects of the humanitarian response are tailored to meet the needs of women and girls.<\/p>\n

The discussions focused on establishing a robust framework for cooperation between SoDMA and local women’s organizations and civil society organizations, ensuring women’s direct participation in all humanitarian decision-making processes.
