MOGADISHU —<\/strong> Somalia unveiled its Centennial Vision 2060 (CV2060) on Monday, establishing a comprehensive national blueprint to guide the country’s development through 2060.<\/p>\n

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud launched the initiative in Mogadishu, the country’s capital, saying, “This vision charts our course to become a peaceful, inclusive middle-income nation by our independence centenary.”<\/p>\n

“The framework targets sustainable economic growth, human capital advancement, inclusive governance, and environmental sustainability,” Mohamud said. “Rather than military competition, Somalia will engage East Africa through economic progress.”<\/p>\n

The 35-year plan comprises seven National Transformation Phases, with the first five-year phase (2025-2029) launched earlier this year. It aligns with continental goals, including the African Union’s Agenda 2063, the bloc’s 50-year development blueprint.<\/p>\n

Claver Gatete, executive secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, hailed CV2060 as “a declaration of Somali resilience” during the event.<\/p>\n

“Amid global uncertainties, Somalia is reclaiming its narrative through this transformative vision,” he said, urging international partners to support implementation.<\/p>\n

“The blueprint addresses institutional reconstruction after decades of conflict, focusing on strengthening governance amid security and political challenges. Somalia builds upon existing foundations to achieve these ambitions,” Gatete added.<\/p>\n
