The special side event, held in Geneva on the sidelines of the World Health Assembly, brought together major global health actors, including UN agencies, donor countries, and international development partners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Representing Somalia was Dr. Guled Abdijalil Ali, the Director General of the Ministry of Health and Human Services, who delivered a keynote speech outlining Somalia\u2019s recent milestones and ongoing challenges in maternal and child healthcare.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Also in attendance were:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Senior representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Delegates from UNICEF, Gavi, and the Global Fund<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ministers and officials from over a dozen countries<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Representatives from global donor agencies and foundations<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The meeting focused on strategies to reduce maternal and child mortality rates, increase access to vaccinations, and secure sustainable funding for reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) services in low-income and fragile states like Somalia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dr.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Guled presented a comprehensive update on Somalia\u2019s efforts, highlightin<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">g:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The introduction of the PCV (Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine) and Rotavirus vaccine,\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">which<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0are vital for preventing deadly infections in children.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Ministry\u2019s strategic health plans aimed at reducing preventable maternal and neonatal deaths.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The critical financing gap\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">that remains<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0a barrier to delivering lifesaving health services in remote and conflict-affected areas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Somalia remains one of the countries with the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world, exacerbated by decades of conflict, displacement, and underinvestment in healthcare systems.
