{"id":16334,"date":"2025-03-29T09:12:53","date_gmt":"2025-03-29T09:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/?p=16334"},"modified":"2025-03-29T09:12:53","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T09:12:53","slug":"wfp-says-funding-cuts-put-tens-of-millions-at-risk-of-starvation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/2025\/03\/29\/wfp-says-funding-cuts-put-tens-of-millions-at-risk-of-starvation\/","title":{"rendered":"WFP says funding cuts put tens of millions at risk of starvation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>ATHENS\u00a0 &#8212; <\/strong>The UN World Food Program (WFP) said on Friday that funding cuts have put tens of millions people at risk of starvation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">As many as \u201c58 million people risk losing life-saving assistance in the agency\u2019s 28 most critical crisis response operations unless new funding is received urgently, \u201c the WFP said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the agency, it is presently facing a 40% drop in funding for 2025, as compared to last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis is having severe repercussions for its food aid efforts globally, particularly emergency feeding programs that support the most vulnerable,\u201d it warned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Commenting on the matter, the agency\u2019s assistant executive director for partnerships and innovation, Rania Dagash-Kamara, said: \u201cThe WFP is prioritizing countries with the greatest needs and stretching food rations at the frontlines.
