BAIDOA —<\/strong> Youth voices took center stage at a conference in Baidoa, where Somali leaders and activists convened from December 5 to 9 to discuss South West State\u2019s Anti-Corruption Aid Bill. The bill aims to combat the diversion of humanitarian aid, a persistent issue impacting marginalized communities across Somalia.<\/p>\n

Aisha Omar Mohamed, a 24-year-old employee of the Ministry of Education, emerged as a standout speaker during the event. She used her platform to call for urgent reforms, highlighting the devastating impact of aid mismanagement.<\/p>\n

“Aid diversion is a plague that traps vulnerable people in cycles of poverty,” Aisha said. “We must enact laws to protect those who rely on aid for survival.”<\/p>\n

A recent graduate of Aden Abdulle Osman University in Mogadishu, Aisha overcame significant hurdles in her career path. Earlier this year, she joined the John Lewis Minority Fellows program, which provided her with professional training and job placement opportunities. This experience equipped her to advocate for reforms that address systemic issues in humanitarian aid distribution.<\/span><\/p>\n

The proposed legislation focuses on South West State, but Aisha urged leaders to extend its reach nationwide, arguing that aid diversion is a national crisis.<\/p>\n

“This bill is a necessary first step, but there is much more work to be done,” she said.<\/p>\n
