MOGADISHU —<\/strong> The Japanese government has donated critical equipment to Somalia’s Police Force Mine Action Unit, to strengthen its capacity to detect and neutralize explosive devices in the country.<\/p>\n

Somali Police Chief Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi received the equipment during a ceremony in Mogadishu on Thursday. He thanked Japan for its support, describing the donation as vital for enhancing public safety.<\/p>\n

“This equipment and the training provided by Japan and UNMAS are crucial in safeguarding Somali citizens from the persistent threats posed by IEDs,” said Brigadier General Abdullahi.<\/p>\n

The Mine Action Unit, which plays a key role in mitigating the dangers of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), is undergoing specialized training facilitated by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS).<\/p>\n

IED attacks have inflicted significant casualties among both civilians and military personnel, underscoring the importance of equipping and training security forces to counter the ongoing threat.<\/p>\n

Japan is one of the countries that consistently supports Somalia\u2019s development and stability, particularly in security and counter-explosion efforts. This step reflects the strong relationship between the two countries, with Japan ready to continue its support in various areas, especially in providing equipment and training to enhance the country\u2019s security services.<\/p>\n
