{"id":15404,"date":"2024-11-26T13:56:57","date_gmt":"2024-11-26T13:56:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/?p=15404"},"modified":"2024-11-27T14:19:54","modified_gmt":"2024-11-27T14:19:54","slug":"un-urges-somalia-to-up-investment-in-fight-against-gender-based-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/2024\/11\/26\/un-urges-somalia-to-up-investment-in-fight-against-gender-based-violence\/","title":{"rendered":"UN urges Somalia to up investment in fight against Gender-Based Violence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>MOGADISHU &#8212;<\/strong> The United Nations in Somalia on Monday called on authorities to ramp up investment in the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">James Swan, acting special representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, also called for the adoption of legislation to criminalize gender-based violence in compliance with international human rights obligations to which Somalia has already subscribed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;This will ensure that persons who commit crimes are held accountable and survivors have access to justice,&#8221; Swan said in a statement issued in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, at the start of the annual global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The global theme for this year&#8217;s campaign is &#8220;Unite!
