{"id":13133,"date":"2024-01-18T23:11:36","date_gmt":"2024-01-18T23:11:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/?p=13133"},"modified":"2024-01-27T09:15:54","modified_gmt":"2024-01-27T09:15:54","slug":"un-agency-allocates-funds-for-flood-response-in-somalia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/2024\/01\/18\/un-agency-allocates-funds-for-flood-response-in-somalia\/","title":{"rendered":"UN agency allocates funds for flood response in Somalia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>MOGADISHU &#8212;<\/strong> The UN humanitarian agency said Thursday that it allocated 35.7 million U.S. dollars to support the El Nino flood response in Somalia since October 2023.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said 25.7 million U.S. dollars came from the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF), a multi-donor country-based pooled mechanism supporting most urgent life-saving interventions in Somalia, while 10 million U.S. dollars allocation was from the Central Emergency Response Fund.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;These allocations aim to provide early action and response to save lives and mitigate the impact of floods on the most vulnerable communities in ten regions of Somalia,&#8221; OCHA said in SHF&#8217;s latest report for the fourth quarter of 2023 released in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The heavy Deyr (October-December) rains in Somalia killed more than 118 people and devastated one-fifth of the harvest in south-central Somalia, according to the UN.
