{"id":125,"date":"2018-04-25T12:25:35","date_gmt":"2018-04-25T12:25:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/?p=125"},"modified":"2018-04-25T18:29:47","modified_gmt":"2018-04-25T18:29:47","slug":"floods-displace-thousands-people-in-beledweyne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/2018\/04\/25\/floods-displace-thousands-people-in-beledweyne\/","title":{"rendered":"Floods displace thousands people in Beledweyne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>BELEDWEYNE (SOHA) &#8211;<\/strong> Thousands of Somali families have been left homeless following continued flooding in parts of Beledweyne, the regional capital of Somalia\u2019s Hiran region over the past days.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hiran deputy governor for Social affairs, Sheikh Hussein Osman told Radio Shabelle that the 5,000 people fled from different suburbs of the city due to the flash floods.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe families are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance after the heavy rains and floods from River Shabelle left them homeless,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0flood victims appealed to the Somali Federal government and aid agencies to assist them with shelter, blankets, food and other life-saving humanitarian support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a report, UN Office for the coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said the river level was at 7.75 meters, which is 0.45 meters above high flood risk level leading the displacement of more than 500 people from Hilaac, Kutimbo and Donsubagle who moved with some moving with their possessions, including livestock to safer areas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Beledweyne\u00a0 Airport has been unserviceable for extended periods over the course of the last week due to inundation by rain waters, which hampers the delivery of supplies<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">UN also said more than 7,000 people in Jowhar town have also moved to Hanti-Wadag village fearing floods from the river which was filled to the brim with frenzied heavy flushing water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Source: SMN<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BELEDWEYNE (SOHA) &#8211; Thousands of Somali families have been left homeless following continued flooding in parts of Beledweyne, the regional capital of Somalia\u2019s Hiran region over the past days.
