{"id":11578,"date":"2023-01-05T20:25:05","date_gmt":"2023-01-05T20:25:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/?p=11578"},"modified":"2023-01-07T07:30:13","modified_gmt":"2023-01-07T07:30:13","slug":"suicide-attacks-in-somalia-death-toll-rises-to-35","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/2023\/01\/05\/suicide-attacks-in-somalia-death-toll-rises-to-35\/","title":{"rendered":"Suicide attacks in Somalia death toll rises to 35"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>MOGADISHU &#8212;\u00a0<\/strong>The death toll in Wednesday\u2019s twin suicide attacks in central Somalia has climbed to 35, including both civilians and soldiers, with another 72 people wounded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Two suicide bombers of the al-Shabaab terrorist group targeted two residential buildings in Mahas, a town in Somalia\u2019s Hiran region, early on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The growing casualty count was confirmed on Thursday by Mumin Mohamed Halane, the town\u2019s mayor, whose house was targeted along with the residence of federal parliamentarian Mahamed Abuukar Jacfar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Halane told Anadolu Agency that his young son suffered serious injuries in the attack and was airlifted to the Somali-T\u00fcrkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital in the capital Mogadishu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Other victims include nine members of a single family, he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe have buried more than 30 people. Some of the bodies are beyond recognition,\u201d said Halane.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said the attackers are believed to have entered Mahas, which lies some 310 kilometers (190 miles) north of Mogadishu, from the bordering region of Galgadud.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mohamed Ali, a resident of Mahas, told Anadolu Agency that he lost family members and friends in the attack.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYesterday was the worst day of my life.
